Cardiovascular Disease and HeartThis presentation will briefly review the physiology of chest pain and differentiate between the different types of chest pain with emphasis on life threatening symptoms. The elements of cardiac assessment including the importance of a comprehensive subjective assessment and focused physical assessment will be described in detail. This presentation will further discuss appropriate nursing interventions for patients presenting with complaints of chest pain as well as the pitfalls that can lead to missed diagnoses and clinical judgment errors including incomplete assessment, errors in clinical reasoning, poor documentation, scope of practice issues and failure to rescue.
